Kenton Pre-School provides equal opportunities for all children in Kenton and the surrounding areas to receive high quality education. Our curriculum covers the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage:

Key Areas of Learning and Development:

  • Communication and Language

  • Physical Development

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Specific Areas of Learning and Development:

  • Literacy

  • Maths

  • Understanding the world

  • Expressive arts and design

We strive to provide a safe and stimulating environment for your child to develop in each of the seven areas. Building a child’s confidence in the prime areas of learning and development is essential, as it allows them to effectively progress through the specific areas, such as Literacy and Maths. In order to do this, we base our sessions around the key characteristics of effective learning:

  • Playing and Exploring

  • Creative and Critical Thinking

  • Active Learning

Throughout their time with us at Kenton Pre-School, we follow your child’s progress through a range of activities and observations. Each child will have their own Learning Journey that records their individual stages of development. This will be available to parents at any time. We recognise that you are the key educator’s in your child’s life and we want to work in partnership with you to enhance and support these important stages of your child’s development.

Children have the freedom to choose from many activities on offer throughout the day. These are both child and adult led, helping them to learn and develop through play. We have our own separate garden, which gives the opportunity for the children to climb, explore their senses, play in the mud kitchen and use their imagination.

We have strong links with the community, which allow us to visit Powderham Castle and have access to their outdoor space and walks. One of our favourite outings is visiting the Secret Garden. We also go on  nature trails around the village which gives the children an opportunity to explore the local environment.

Kenton Pre-School has an excellent connection with Kenton Primary School. We join together to share learning experiences. We offer 8 transition sessions in the Summer Term for the children that will be attending the school in September.
